This
airy open weave hat is delightful to wear. While fresh it is green,
cool and substantial. The freshness and color lasts for a couple of
weeks. Or, you may freeze it! A natural cooler and nothing better on
a hot afternoon than a frozen fedora. After defrosting it will color
to a rich mahogany brown that lasts a few weeks. Eventually the hat
will dry to a sandy tan. The style is durable and can last for years.
Wear it swimming in the Caribbean or equally well in a garden in Maine. Each sombrero is an individual too.As no two Palm trees are alike or any cluster of leaflets on a frond, no two hats come out the same. The hat style is dictated by the tree. It takes about an hour to harvest the leaf, split, trim and weave the hat. Most hats are finished to an average head size. Celebrate its specialness and decorate with a hibiscus bloom (for the ladies) or a cinnamon stick or two (for the gents) to make it yours alone. |
